The One About Me getting a Haircut
Ever since I wear my hair short (it used used to be different, and now there are no pix and my driving license is hidden in a secure location), my haircut looks, despite my best efforts to contrary, always the same. I tried plenty, but it seemingly doesn’t doesn’t matter what I do. I visit a hairdresser, give a set of instructions, and the resulting haircut is the same like always.
Weeknotes #15
Since the my last very-not-weekly posts plenty of things have happened and by now I am not done, but more done in moving the blog over to Micro.Blog. There are still some posts, from the earlier years of this blog amiss but eventually they will make it appearance over here as well. It is not that anyone is really missing them. But a bit more of that later. I doubt that anyone wants to hear about it anymore but the Corona situation at the moment seems be rather wild.
The finished 1989 Batmobile
We started building this exactly three months ago (it naturally gathered some dust in the meanwhile 🙈) but as of last evening the 1989 Batmobile is finished. It’s a great (in many ways) Lego set and it was huge fun to build. Some sections were rather challenging to assemble, but it was motivating to build at all times. The level of detail in this set is really great to see.
My upcoming Reading List - A plan
I have a “problem”: I get quickly obsessive about things in general and additionally tend to be a completionist. When I like something, I really “like” it and have to read/watch/listen/own everything about it. Not always, sure, but often enough. My latest object of “liking” is Robert Jordan’s “The Wheel of Time series. My wife had frequently encouraged me to start reading the series and in November ‘21 I eventually did.
On this day, 12 years ago...
I launched in addition to my photoblog (From 10 to 300mm), my “personal” blog which ran under Too Much Latte for many years. Then I set up the whole thing from my phone while in the bus to a concert in Levi/Finland. I remember that being a rather fiddly thing then, and I don’t think that the Wordpress admin was even responsive. Somehow I got it done though. Today curiosity drew me to archive.
I'm almost there
I think I might be (almost) done with the re-design of the Blog’s theme, at least for now. At the moment it is a mashup of the Micro-Blogs own Simple-Theme, Pure’s CSS and Obsidian’s Things themes’ colour-scheme and multiple bits of code from the Tufte-Theme such as the summaries in the timeline and the and the category-links on the posts (update: that I just added, because you know: I’m almost there 🙈).
New Pen Day
It's the first one this year! I have been waiting for the pen to arrive and today my new Kaweco Student Demonstrator arrived, and it is gorgeous. I have currently equipped it with the Kaweco Premium EF Nib and it writes and feels wonderfully in the hand. I have come to like to Demonstrator pens as they are rather neutral and don't imply any colour. I always want to make sure that ink and pen match and the neutral colour makes the pen flexible.
New Year, New Journal Setup
I’m using the Bullet Journal Method for task-management now in the third year and aside two attempts of trying digital solutions such as orgmode and Todoist (each in turn lasted exactly a month), have stuck to and enjoyed working with it every day since. At the same time I have started journaling and haven’t missed a single day of doing so, aside, again, each a 30 day stint with org-journal, Day One and recently an even shorter attempt of using Obsidian.
For Christmas a picture of our youngest, rather mischievous, family member doing just what he’s not supposed to. Which seems to be fair, seems to be his favourite occupation.

Performing with the Oulu All Stars Big Band feat. Jarkko Martikainen
On Saturday, 18th of December 2021 at 19 o’clock we will perform with the Big Band feat. Jarkko Martikainen the “Pieni joulu-uudistus“ program at the Karjasillan church. It’s going to be a nice program with all kinds of Christmas tunes. The past rehearsals went well, and the saxophone section has a lot of doublings in there (I’m on the un-usual Baritone seat, also play clarinet and tenor here), which is a fun thing to do.
This Years' Gingerbread House
While I was off on a rehearsal the other day my wife and the kids finished this years Gingerbread House(s). It’s as awesome as always.
Two books that I read lately
A few weeks ago I started to read Robert Jordans “The Wheel of Time” and in the meanwhile I have finished the first book, the “Eye of the World”, in the series. It’s a great book and I enjoyed it a lot. Needless to say that I plan to continue the series, which, with 12/13 books to go, is no small task. I still refrain from watching the series on Amazon though, as from my understanding the first season is more or less based on the first three books and I don’t want to spoil the series for me.
The Return of the Baritone
I haven’t played the baritone sax for at the least 15 years and had some fun today working on it in preparation for an upcoming project. In fact I had so much fun, I could imagine spending more time with the instrument. Don't expect updates anytime soon
well, at least on reading-updates or possibly on things I watched. Thing is that we got HBO-Max and I started to re-watch “The Big Bang Theory” which is again huge fun. While it was on TV I think I only got up to 7th season or so, so there is a lot to catch up with. Also I started reading the audiobook of Robert Jordan’s The Eye of the World. Looking at the numbers, 14 books, each about 30 hours in length and an average reading time of one hour a day, I expect to be finished with the series in somewhere around Christmas next year.

New Nib-Day
My fountain-pen hobby addiction extents now to nibs as well. From the day I got it the Kaweco Brass Sport had been my favourite fountain-pen and I have enjoyed writing with it, the feel of the brass and the fact that the body itself is so solid that I don't have to worry about breaking it when carrying it around. Great! Over the time I have developed a rather small handwriting and while I have been rather satisfied with the stock EF-nib that I have been using on the Brass I kept looking into other pens to improve the writing feel with an EF nib.
I know, it's Been A While
After re-launching this blog and updating it with a whooping six posts this year, I also re-launched my Micro-Blog today. Over the course of the past weeks and months I found myself again thinking that I may have had enough of a social-media/blogging break and frequently caught myself situations in which I thought, ‘hey, that would be fun sharing’. Needless to say, I never did. Today though I took first measures and reactivated my Micro.
Fragile
My Baum-Kuchen Studio delivery arrived and contained, amongst a few other things, also this nice sticker which looks great on my Travelers Notebook. I just hope the sticker will stick a while.
A short trip to Hailuoto
Nice! I knew that the feature had been in the works and now the new Story feature in Wordpress had been enabled. I quickly put it to use with some images from yesterdays, admittedly short and rather cold day trip, to the island of Hailuoto. Immediately is obvious that the images should be in portrait-mode. Almost a new Domain
My update-process continues and as such I updated/changed/edit (delete as appropriate) my blog’s domain to svenseebeck.me, and thus got rid of the subdomain blog. Amazing, I know. Since you read this, you found out already, and if not, well, I guess there’s no way to figure that out. And while I’m at it I’m also working a theme update. Not set on it yet though.

It sure is a different “Vappu” this year, but my wife prepared, as every year, some nice “Munkki”.
2000 Pages of Sandman
While I more or less binged the rest of the series beginning from Vol.5, the first four volumes I read spread out other the last year with lots of other books in between. When arriving at the last few volumes, in which a lot of characters and story arcs were referenced, I figured that I had a hard time remembering some of the characters and stories. I figured those of course after a while and will re-read the series at some time anyway.
New Ink Day - Diamine Earl Grey
I had been looking for a nice grey ink for use in my Bullet Journal as I start to feel the black I was using as too “contrast-y”. I then found Diamine Earl Grey and even after only little use, I feel that it’s just what I have been looking for and I’m sure the ink will find much more use around here. It is a very fun colour and as a bonus matches the pen very well.
The Last "Reading-Update" for 2019
After reading Richard Matheson’s Nightmare at 20000 Feet, which I thoroughly enjoyed (if that is a proper to thing to say about horror-stories I don’t know) I was looking for something lighter and continued with the first of the Hercule Poirot stories and then read a collection of stories by Cory Doctorow. While the above were audiobooks, I, at the same time, re-read Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere of which I recently got the used, illustrated edition of and liked it even more that the first time I read it.
