Yes it has been a while since the last update but now it’s more time for a fresh picture. I used the beginning of the vacation for a first (think about that) shooting this year, and returned to a familiar and close-by location. Even though not a masterpiece, it is at least a good beginning of the summer holidays.

The Mänty Sketches #1

It is now two years ago that I launched a project, which I called the Winter Trees-Project, which is, as you have guessed already, about trees, well, in Winter time. The project did though not really progress much during that time. Truth to be told and good idea aside, nothing really happened. When I initiated this small project I thought it to be a good idea, as there are trees literally everywhere around here, and I am not very comfortable photographing them, hence it would be a good project to develop my eye.

Merry Christmas

Today I would like to wish all of you who take their time to visit my site a Merry Christmas. This year surely was an eventful one and with the change of year approaching rapidly I’m looking forward to the next one. I would like to thank all of you for your support, for visiting my site every now and then and for following my work here and on all the other social media sites.

Two Tree Abstracts

During the summer we took the chance and went out to one of my favourite locations, a wild stream called Kotelinkoski to take advantage of the nice summer evening light and to (finally) photograph a tree which I noticed a few weeks earlier. Despite the planning and an un-expected construction site along the road, we arrived slightly too late and the light on the tree was already gone and we chose to simply enjoy the evening and do some on the grilling in this nice place.

Just The Island

A while ago I wrote about the importance of having a favorite location close by your home. I posted few examples in these two posts and third post is still in the works. Just to prove my point once more, here’s a fresh image from a place which might be familiar to you already. Not much to say about this… conditions looked about right,I took the car, drove a few minutes andtook two pictures.

Raptor Falls #2

The other week I posted the first image in this series and it’s time for the image which I originally envisioned. Immediately when I passed the waterfall I had the idea for vertical panoramic image. The waterfall seemed to be just perfect for this purpose. This doesn’t only look nice here and I’m sure it will make a wonderful print. I also just realized that it is much easier to present a vertical panorama on the blog than a horizontal one ;-).

Eggum View

We’re just on the way back from the Lofoten with the direction to our home in Finland . We’re not in a hurry and we use the chance to stop now and then to explore and enjoy some of the scenery, as we did right here in Eggum. This is the way we the clouds have been most of the time for the first few days of the trip. It is amazing how low clouds can get in this area, also is it always surprising how different the conditions are around there.

St.Michael's Mount in the Dark

Actually it’s just before sunrise but it just does sounds better this way, doesn’t it? Having published my Cornwall e-book already last year I haven’t been looking through my archives from there much recently. Since I’m in the middle of the process of updating my galleries recently, I found this gem in there which I once processed, and then obviously forgot about. I had explored the coast the day before and returned early in the morning to be in place at sunrise.

A Smaller Kind of 'scapes

I jump-started my photographic season (at least the more local one) for this year already a few week ago and luckily I already had the chance to take advantage of some nice weather. By the time of this writing there’s still a decent layer of snow every now and then and the sea is still frozen over, but it’s getting there quickly. To make the beginning of the season as productive as possible I decided to focus on the smaller landscapes, a theme that I have not been necessarily neglecting but one that I’m at least not so familiar or comfortable with this.

The Flow #2

The other day I was just browsing through my Lightroom library and “found” this image again. I used to had it posted on my previous blog, but I did though posted a different version of it here on this blog. As with the image of my previous post, I gave this image an overhaul with some newly learned techniques. At one point I started to play (erm… read seriously working) around a little and wanted to see what it this image would look like in a faux-infrared conversion.

Bay #1: Re-imagined

The sun just above the horizon as we’re driving along the coast and stopping ever so often to take a fresh image. The light and the colours in the sky were gorgeous all the through the night, and this image is one of the first in a series or many more images to come during this night. This little bay was one in a group of all together 4 bays (initially I remembered this to be three, but this actually happened to be the fourth one) in a row, and all of them were different in character.

On A Little Island - Winter

The forecast for today didn’t look too good in fact and I’m up for a couple of hours already. The sun rises late at this time of the year and every time I watch out of the window it’s dark and appears to become just another grey day. At one point though it seems the conditions change and quickly I decide to grab my gear (which is always ready to go here) and quickly head out to a familiar location.

Fuzzy Pelican

Another one from a fun trip to a local bird zoo… Already in my previous image from this trip I wrote a little about my attempts to take a decent image of these magnificent animals. Surely the challenge to do so in a zoo is a limited one. Having a maximal focal length of 85mm (I think it was something like that) I was pretty much dependent on the willingness of these birds to pose.

The Green Mountain

A long night with beautiful light and gorgeous sky is coming to an end. The sun rises and it’s light slowly creeps over the mountains lighting the green mountains with it’s warm light. Quite a few successful image have been taken so far during this evening, but now the outing will be soon over. The beautiful warm light on the mountains to the right is what appeals to me here and what make the image for me.

Discovered In The Archive - A Sneak Peek

Every now and then I browse through my archive it happens that I find some images that I have long forgotten about. These are some of them. The moment I found them I immediately got an idea what to do with them, something which I didn’t had then when I took then. I’m excited that it actually seems to work. I spent a few hours on the weekend working on those and there’s still a lot some work with these to do, but so far it does work look promising.

Lofoten Summer

It has been a long day at this moment already, and we’re still searching for the location we have noticed in the distance. Still without success, and as it will turn out, we will never find “the spot”. Along the road though, we run into a few other beautiful scenes. Such as this one. It is a wonderful and silent place, and I take my time composing a few images.

Storvatnet Reflection #1

Lofoten Islands, Norway, June 2010 The outing for tonight is almost over and we are just on our way back to the beach where we planned to stay to stay the night. The horrific conditions of the previous day are long forgotten and this night had been full of good photographic opportunities. Just on our way back we pass this beautiful and silent lake. The sun is by now high enough in the sky to throw it’s light over the mountains and wonderfully light the mountains in front of us.

The Second Frost

It had been the third day with gorgeous light in a row, something that I believe to be happening rather rarely during this time of year. Two days ago, I used the chance to visit this small beach, named Isoniemi at sunset and photographed this island in a nice warm light evening light alongside with some interesting structures on the ice. It was very cold then, and at home I got some more ideas for this location.

Summer Swamp

It’s the end of July 2009, almost on my birthday, and by now I’m already photographing the landscapes up here on the island north of Tromsö for hours. The sun only hid below the horizon giving wonderful golden light for hours and locations to photograph were plenty along the way. I just love to photograph in this area. It is possible to photograph in the mountains and at the coast within a small area.
